vitamins

Question for any breastfeeding moms who happen to be reading my blog:

Did the pediatrician suggest you give your baby a liquid vitamin?

Our pediatrician (not one I chose, but that's another story for another day) is really pushing it, and I don't want to give Tristan liquid vitamins. He suggested I give them to him "right before" he nurses, & then tells me that it tastes disgusting. Ok. Right. I'm sure that will really encourage him to latch on. Lol. Also, he wants me to do the Tri-Vi-Sol with iron. Can you imagine how upset his little tummy would be with taking iron supplement every day? I take a daily multivitamin, and I eat a well balanced diet. The pediatrician says the vitamins are for Vitamin D, because the American Academy of Pediatrics indicates that babies need more vitamin D. I take Tristan outside every day if the sun is shining; there's his vitamin D. It just seems like a liquid multivitamin isn't something he needs.

Jamie,
Go with your gut instint or should I say mother's instint! There were a lot of things Dylan's peditrician said, and I just did what I thought was best for him.

Even though I am not a mom, I would switch peds because if you already don't like him/her, chances are you're going to encounter more issues later on with this person like my sister-in-law did.

If it tastes awful, no,I wouldn't give it to him. Hopefully others will comment. Hate that you're having issues!

I agree, go with your instinct! I've never heard of such! That was never suggested the 9 months that I nursed.. And many times I visited the pedi begging for tips and tricks (to make him less fussy) ;)
